Features
The coupling’s double-loop thermoplastic compensating element is based on the base material HYTREL®, a thermoplastic ether ester elastomer (TEEE) from DuPont.
Thanks to the high fatigue resistance of this flexible material and the gimbal-like design of the power transmitter, this innovation offers an ingenious technical solution for shaft misalignment issues in drive, measurement, and control technology.
Applications include the following design areas:
angle encoders, pulse generators, rotary encoders, counters, tachogenerators, servo drives, lead screws, control valves, lifting tables, feed drives, pumps, blowers/fans, kitchen appliances, office systems, textile machinery, as well as numerous applications in automotive and aerospace engineering.
The one-piece coupling operates without disruptive influences—friction-free, wear-free, and noise-free (i.e., without disruptive structure-borne vibrations).
During changes in the direction of rotation or torque fluctuations with a reversal in the load direction, PAGUFLEX® PLUS thus enables backlash- and shock-free power transmission, including effective vibration damping and sound insulation.
The material HYTREL® has successfully replaced both established thermoplastics and elastomers in numerous technical applications. It ideally combines the advantages of both materials and is therefore the innovation behind the flexible shaft coupling.
It opens up new areas of application at extremely low and high temperatures. PAGUFLEX® PLUS is now also the solution when used with media in which elastic elements have proven to have only “limited durability” due to their sensitivity, as well as in cases where the material’s resistance to repeated bending has previously imposed strict limits on continuous mechanical stress.
The high flexibility of the thermoplastic coupling element effectively relieves stress on the shaft bearings of motors and power units, even with large radial and angular misalignments. With the help of PAGUFLEX® PLUS couplings, the bearings run more quietly, generate less heat, and achieve longer service life, thereby extending the overall lifespan of the equipment.
Advantages
- High torsional rigidity combined with optimal flexibility under bending and tensile/compressive loads
- ingeniously simple design
- One-piece design—no play, friction, wear, or structural vibrations
- Easy installation; no additional machining of the shaft journals required
- Minimal installation clearance, both radially and axially
- Extremely high permissible misalignment values: angular misalignment approx. ±15°, radial misalignment approx. ±3 mm, and axial misalignment approx. 10 to 20 mm
- Coupling can be used as a universal joint for large or varying shaft bending angles
- Elastic element made of HYTREL® (thermoplastic ether ester elastomer, TEEE), resulting in:
- high operational reliability in the temperature range between -40 °C and +100 °C
- outstanding chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, gases, and ozone
- high tear resistance, high cold flexibility, high abrasion resistance, and high resistance to repeated bending
- Insulation against heat, structure-borne noise, and leakage currents
- Damping of vibrations and impacts
- Relief of transverse and longitudinal forces on motor/unit shaft bearings
- Steel hubs with a corrosion-protected, electrogalvanized surface or, optionally, in special designs
- Coupling can be used as a safety element: Shearing of the elastic body under overload = limitation of damage
